Congress Mahasamiti meeting yet to start
The Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress has not been started until 4:45 pm on Thursday. The Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) was summoned for 9 am on Thursday after leaders failed to forge a consensus on the issue of party’s central office bearers.
“The Central Working Committee meeting is yet to start and the Mahasamiti meeting has also not been started,” central member Jeevan Pariya said, adding,” All the members are basking in the sun.”
Earlier this morning, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba held a discussion with the leaders close to him.
The agreement reached on Tuesday was overturned due to the members of establishment faction. They expressed their dissatisfaction over the agreement saying that one post each should be made inclusive in vice-president, general secretary and joint general secretary.
Earlier on Tuesday night, President Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel and former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula had agreed to increase the number of party office bearers and size of Central Working Committee (CWC) in a new provision, ending the long-running dispute over the amended party statute.
They reached an agreement to increase the size of the Central Working Committee from the current 88 to 161 in new set-up, including eight office bearers—one president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, two joint general secretaries and one treasurer.

The agreement was overturned after the members of establishment faction during the Central Working Committee meeting on Wednesday raised the issue of inclusivity arguing that they would not accept the agreement at any cost.
This is the sixth day that the Mahasamiti meeting kicked off in the Capital. Originally scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, the meeting had to be extended as the leaders could not forge a consensus on the party statute.
Mahasamiti member Kedarnath Singh KC said that it is still not sure how many days it will take to conclude the meeting.
“Central Working Committee should take the responsibility for the current mismanagement,” he said.
