Congress President Deuba proposes 14 office bearers
Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has floated a proposal to have 14 office bearers.
He floated the proposal during a meeting of the Central Working Committee meeting held at the party office in Sanepa, Lalitpur on Friday.
According to an agreement reached with other leaders, Deuba has proposed a president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, eight joint general secretaries and a treasurer.

Gangster Manange released from jail after apex court order
Notorious gangster Deepak Manange aka Rajeev Gurung has been released from jail following an order from the Supreme Court on Thursday.
A division bench of Justices Sharada Prasad Ghimire and Bam Kumar Shrestha issued the order to release him.
Manange, who was elected as an independent candidate to a provincial assembly seat from Manang district, had been doing time in the Dillibazaar prison for an attempted murder case.

Watchmaker promising fire trucks for Nepal has a series of dodgy financial dealings—and a chequered past
In January last year, the Nepal Tourism Board signed an agreement to grant $200,000 to the Soarway Institute for Development for its project, the ‘Nepal Fire Truck Expedition,’ an initiative to bring second-hand fire trucks donated from the United States to Nepal.
Behind this campaign, and signing on behalf of the Soarway Institute for Development, was German watchmaker Michael Kobold, who has been living on and off in Kathmandu for the past decade.

Panel tells government to complete Melamchi project within deadline
The Finance Committee of Parliament grilled government officials involved with the Melamchi Water Supply Project over the last-hour disruption in the project that should have been completed by now.
Members of the committee on Thursday questioned officials at the Water Supply Ministry and Melamchi Water Supply Development Board over the ongoing dispute involving the project’s Italian contractor Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna (CMC) and the government which has put the project’s future into uncertainty. The committee has directed the government to complete the Melamchi project within the allocated budget and the set timeframe.

Banks to cut interest rates on deposit
Bowing down to strong pressure from the Finance Ministry and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), commercial banks have agreed to lower their interest rate on deposit.
It was agreed during a lunch meeting between bankers and NRB officials, on Thursday.
The commercial banks had started competing in interest rate to attract deposits, breaching their earlier gentleman’s agreement.
