Bride wounded badly as her ex-boyfriend’s gang attacks at wedding mandap

A 22-year-old bride was seriously injured when a gang of her “former boyfriend” launched an attack at wedding mandap at Jaljale of Phedap Rural Municipality-3 on Monday night.

The bride, Pratikchhya Sambahamphe, was badly injured when the gang attacked during a marriage ceremony last night, said Narayan Gautam, Inspector at District Police Office Terhathum. Three others from the bride side were also injured. 

Sambahamphe sustained deep wound in her head and was rushed to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences last night itself. She was later taken to Biratnagar Neuro Hospital from Dharan, police said.

Sambahamphe was attending the ceremony to tie the knots with Sachin Angdembe, 22, of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality of Panchthar. However, the groom, Sachin is alright. Bride’s elder brother Deuman Sambahamphe, local Suman Khapung, and Tikadevi Sambahampe were injured.  Deuman has also been taken to Biratnagar for treatment, while the other two has been receiving medical attention at district hospital Terhathum.

Inspector Gautam said Saroj Limbu, 19, Om Limbu, 14, Dinesh Limbu, 21, Sudi Limbu, 19, and Mandip Limbu, among those involved in the assault, have been arrested. Police said they are looking for other attackers and launched further investigation into the incident.
