Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his readiness to address the demands of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) including amendment to the constitution.
PM Oli, however, sought one week time with the leadership of RJP-N to make necessary preparations to address the demands.
During a meeting held in Baluwatar on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that the government is ready to move ahead by addressing the demands of RJP-N including amendment to the constitution at the earliest.
“PM has sought one week time with the leadership of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal to make necessary preparations to address the issues,” said Raj Kishor Yadav, a member of the RJP-N Presidium. The leaders had even reminded the Prime Minister about the memorandum presented to him by the party earlier, he said.
During the meeting, the leaders expressed their dissatisfaction over the Prime Minister for not holding discussion regarding the constitution amendment, not ensuring oath of lawmaker elect Resham Lal Chaudhary and not withdrawing cases filed against its cadres and release cadres arrested during different protests.
The leaders have also warned that the party would withdraw its support extended to the government if the latter did not address their issues within a week.
The party has been pressing for constitutional amendments to remove “discriminatory provisions against Madhes”.
The RJP-N had extended its support to the Oli government besides the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal.
Despite supporting the government, RJP-N lawmakers have been sitting at the opposition row in both the Houses of Parliament.
Leaders in the RJP-N’s six-member presidium have been warning the government that the party would first withdraw its support to the government and begin a protest programme to press for addressing their concerns.
RJP-N Presidium Coordinator Rajendra Mahato, members Mahantha Thakur, Sharad Singh Bhandari, Mahindra Raya Yadav, Raj Kishor Yadav and Anil Kumar Jha had reached Baluwatar to meet PM Oli.
