The Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) - one of the popular franchise Twenty20 tournaments of the country, has been postponed by a week after the tournament coincided with Nepal’s bilateral series away to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Nepal are scheduled to play a three-match One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International Series each beginning from January 25 to February 3. DPL was scheduled to be held at the Fapla grounds from February 2-16. “Since a majority of players will be on international duty for the bilateral series, we had to postpone the tournament,” said tournament organiser Subash Bahadur Shahi, the Dhangadhi Cricket Academy Director. The fresh dates for the DPL now has been set for February 9-23. Along with the tournament, the players’ registration deadline has also been extended to January 1. The auction of the cricketers is now set for January 3. DPL is Nepal’s first Twenty20 tournament to hold auction of the cricketers. A total of six teams are participating in the tournament.
Sompal Kami-led Team Chauraha Dhangadhi is the defending champion. Local franchise Dhangadhi had beaten Gyanendra Malla’s Kathmandu Goldens in the final earlier this year. (PR)
