Nepal Communist Party Co-chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has offered to form a task force to address the grievances raised by the party’s standing committee leaders at the ongoing meeting of the committee.
As an overture Dahal also agreed to amend the much-criticised political document jointly presented by him and the fellow co-chairman, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
“Dahal has offered to rewrite the political document by incorporating the voices raised by the standing committee members” said Narayan Kaji Shrestha, NCP spokesperson.
It was not decided who will be taking the initiative to amend the political document.
Addressing the NCP standing committee meeting on Wednesday, Dahal also committed to settle the row concerning the merger of the party’s organisations that still remain divided between the erstwhile CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) at the local and provincial levels.
“There are several challenges facing the party, from giving completing the merger to improving the way the government functions. These issues should be resolved amicable. We should stand united, not squabble among ourselves like two opposition parties,” Dahal said.
The NCP co-chairman also welcomed the views and criticisms of the party’s standing committee leaders, saying they only help strengthen and improve the organisation.
According to Shrestha, Dahal also urged the party leaders to support the government at this stage by offering constructive criticisms.
Concerning the complaint that the party leadership has been taking important decision of the party and the government without discussing with the standing committee leaders, Dahal assured to take important issues before the committee before taking decisions in the future.
About the controversy surrounding the government’s participation in the Asia Pacific Summit organised by the Christian cult organisation, Universal Peace Federation, Dahal accepted it as a wrong move on the part of the Oli government, but urged the party leaders not to resent the past mistakes.
“We have to learn to learn from our mistakes, evaluate our action and correct
them, rather than creating rift and stirring controversy,” Dahal said.
Oli is expected to address the standing committee meeting on Thursday.
