National Assembly (NA) Chairman Ganesh Timilsina has insisted that people’s awareness level should be increased to fully implement provisions in the constitution and acts.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Samabesi Foundation on Friday, he said the constitution achieved through a long struggle of people had granted sufficient rights to the people of all communities, including the Dalits. “But people need to be made more aware of it,” Timilsina said.

He admitted that Parliament bypassed in-depth and sufficient discussions on the bills relating to fundamental rights due to the compulsion of formulating laws in a limited timeframe, he pledged to revise such acts as per the need of time. Dalit lawmakers and rights activities present on the occasion called for incorporating additional provisions in the rights of dalits and marginalised communities.
