Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) posed themselves as serious title contenders of the Manmohan Memorial Cup One Day National cricket tournament on Tuesday easing past Province 3 by 118 runs in their first match.
Put in to bat first, half centuries from youngsters Rohit Kumar Paudel and Bhim Sharki took the Armymen to 288-8 in 50 overs. Ishan Pandey was the lone fighter making a gritty 75 but his innings was not yet enough as Province 3 were 170 all out in 36.2 overs.
National team’s exciting talent Paudel was the star performer of the day who took his side close to 300-run mark smashing a 49-ball 80 not out hitting six fours and four sixes. He was ably supported by another national team prospect making a run-a-ball 71. Skipper Binod Bhandari also chipped in 48 runs for the winning side.
Pratish GC and Jitendra Singh Thakuri took two wickets each for Province 3. Surya Tamang also had one scalp. Province 3 struggled in their chase and spinner Sahab Alam did the job for TAC picking up four wickets in 5.2 overs giving away just 14 runs. Only Pandey managed to push the team towards a respectable total, while Aadil Khan (32) was their next notable contributor.
Thakuri and skipper Sonu Tamang made 16 runs each for the losing side. Paudel was adjudged the man-of-the-match. On Wednesday, TAC will take on Province 6.
