House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has directed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other ministers to immediately answer the questions raised by the lawmakers after their speech on the issues of public importance.
Speaking at the Federal Parliament meeting on Wednesday, main opposition Nepali Congress Chef Whip Bal Krishna Khand expressed his dissatisfaction after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli evaded the questions from the lawmakers after presenting his speech on the issues of public importance on January 6.
Reminding that House of Representatives Regulations 2075 (219) that allows lawmakers to put forth their questions to Prime Minister and ministers after they present their speech on issues of public importance, lawmaker Khand questioned why the Prime Minister did not answer the questions?
According to House of Representatives Regulations 2075, 219 (1) and (2), Prime Minister and ministers should answer the questions floated by the lawmakers. The Nepali Congress lawmakers said that they were forced to picket the rostrum after they did not get the time as per the provision.
Khand also expressed his discontent with House Speaker for continuing the meeting despite protests from the opposition lawmakers.
“The reputation of the Parliament will be tarnished if such incidents repeat frequently. The government and Parliament should be accountable to the people. Why the Prime Minister did not answer the questions? The government should answer about it.”
He said the Speaker should take the responsibility for not creating conducive environment for the Prime Minister to answer the questions.
Khand expressed his discontent for not getting answer of the written questions raised against the Prime Minister and minister through the Parliament Secretariat after informing the Speaker.
He demanded the Prime Minister and ministers should furnish written clarifications for the issue. He warned that his party would obstruct the Parliament proceedings if the Prime Minister and ministers do not answer the questions in the days to come.
Saying that his attention has been drawn over the issue raised by lawmaker Khand, Speaker Mahara directed the Nepal government to immediately answer the questions raised by the lawmakers on the issues of public importance.
“My serious attention has been drawn,” he said, adding, “I directed the government to answer the questions raised by the lawmakers after the Prime Minister and ministers presented speech on the public importance.”
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had addressed the parliament. The NC lawmakers tried to raise the questions after the PM presented his speech but the Speaker did not give time to raise the questions. Then they obstructed the Parliament proceedings in protest. Speaker Mahara gave time to Rastriya Janata Party Nepal Chief Whip Laxman Lal Karna after the lawmakers of his party stood from their seats and started to chant slogans.
The zero house and special time have been removed from the calendar in today’s meeting.
