Resident doctors of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Thursday halted all medical services as part of their indefinite protest, saying that the hospital has not provided them salary for the past eight months.

The resident doctors at the Maharajgunj-based teaching hospital resorted to protest as the TUTH has not released their stipends for the past several months.

“We will continue our strike until we are provided our salaries,” said National Resident Doctors Association Chairman Dr Sumit Pandey, “How long shall we work with empty stomachs?”

A resident doctor at TUTH is entitled to receive Rs 34,000 as monthly stipend and there are around 180 resident doctors currently working in the hospital.
