Armand Moyen stuck a hat-trick as Chyasal Youth Club hit Delhi Football Club for six to enter the quarter-finals of the Khaptad Gold Cup football tournament on Thursday.
Apart from Moyan, Sanjog Rai, Hemant Thapa Magar and Santa Bahadur Rai were also on target for the Nepali top-tier club who finished eighth in the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League that concluded on Tuesday.
Chaysal took an early 14th minute lead at the Dhangadhi Stadium when Sanjog struck capitalising on a pass from Elvis Appiah. They doubled their tally in the 31st minute when a 25-yard thunderous shot from Hemant entered the goal after hitting the inner cross bar. Moyen made it 3-0 nine minute later thanks to a wonderful pass from Sanjog as the forward controlled it before firing past ungurded Delhi goalkeeper Mandip.
Despite taking three-goal lead, Chyasal kept their momentum after the break and added to their tally in the 61st minute. Moyen utilised a pass from Yogesh Gurung to score his second goal. Moyen was lucky to complete his hat-trick largely due to a poor goolkeeping from Delhi custodian Mandip, who fumbled a weak attempt from the Chyasal forward.
Santa added more salts to the Delhi woulds scoring the sixth goal for Chyasal in the first minute of the stoppage time. Moyen was declared man-of-the-match and received Rs 10,000 for his match-winning exploits. Chyasal take on Three Star Club of Lalitpur for a place in the semi-finals.
Chyasal coach Raju Kaji Shakya said his players made light of the new ground by their free-flowing show. “Our debutant striker (Moyen) played remarkably well and made the victory look so easy,” added Shakya. Delhi coach BS Mehra said his team took to the field without six regular starters and paid the price. “Still we should have done lot better than the end result,” added Mehra. Gorkha Boys of Rupandehi will take on Sankata Club on Friday.
