Jan 14, 2019-

Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging an indefinite hunger strike in Ilam for the past six days, has been admitted to Ilam Hospital on Monday.

He was rushed to the hospital following complaints of chest and heart problems this morning.

Earlier on Sunday, doctors attending Dr KC had expressed concern over his deteriorating health and suggested him to undergo treatment at the District Hospital. KC, however, refused to move to the hospital.

Dr KC started his 16th hunger strike on Thursday after the Education and Health Committee of the Legislature Parliament endorsed the report on Medical Education Bill against the agreement signed with him.

The crusader has been demanding the government sack the office bearers of Tribhuvan University as per the recommendation made by Gauri Bahadur Karki led probe committee, reinstate the rights of Institute of Medicine snatched by the TU office bearers, take ahead the works of opening medical colleges in all the seven provinces effectively and begin process of admitting MBBS students at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences at the earliest.
