Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is leaving for Davos, Switzerland, on Sunday to participate in the World Economic Forum.

This will be Nepal’s first presence in Davos at the prime minister’s level. Oli is leading a 19-member delegation to the forum. He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali, two advisers and senior officials.

The prime minister told Parliament on Friday that Nepal’s participation in the forum demonstrates the world’s growing concern towards the country. “The world community has taken positively the way we managed our conflict,” said Oli.

The Nepali delegation will participate in three different segments in Davos on the themes including “Shaping the Future of the Democracy” and “Beyond the GDP”. On January 22, Oli will address a high-level segment on “Strategic Outlook on South Asia”. Nepal’s ambassador to Geneva and vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission have participated in the forum earlier.

Oli is one of the key speakers alongside leaders from the G-20 countries. On the sidelines of the summit, Oli will meet the prime ministers of Vietnam and Israel.

In his address to the House on Friday, Oli said the world community has taken positively Nepal’s political and economic transformation. “Now Nepal will not remain as a backward country—one that the global community does not pay attention to,” he remarked.

About the forum that discusses global economic and political issues and trends, the prime minister said Nepal would tell the world about its priorities. “The forum will help us seek investment,” said Rajan Bhattarai, Oli’s foreign relations adviser, during an interaction in the Capital on Friday. “The prime minister will share the economic policy of his government with the world leaders as well as top executives and corporate leaders,” said Bhattarai. “We have political stability now. In his address, the prime minister will call on the global business community to invest in Nepal.”
