All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Monday announced the fixture of the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League set for February 8 kick off.
Under the standard practice, the league tournament is held on round robin basis where each team plays the other at least once. But the football governing body has decided to organise the league after dividing 12 teams into two pools. The top two teams from each pool will make into the next rounds—the Super League—where they will play under round robin format. The position of the teams will be based on points obtained in the Super League only.
According to ANFA general secretary Indraman Tuladhar, the football governing body decided to divide the teams into two groups due to short time before the next football cycle 2019-2022 starts. “The new cycle of international football begins in April and we must complete all the programmes of the season before that,” said Tuladhar. “Though we had previously planned the league for December start, we failed to do that due to various reasons.”
Like the ‘A’ Division League that concluded on January 8, the second-tier football will also have no provision of relegation and promotion. ANFA president Karma Tsering Sherpa had previously said that it was a warm up league that was organised after the gap of five year with the proper leagues due next season.
Jhamshikhel Youth Club, Ranipokhari Corner Team, Shree Kumari Club, Satdobato Youth Club, Nayabasti Youth Club and Boys Union Club are placed in Group ‘A’. Group ‘B’ consists of Tusal Youth Club, Pulchowk Sports Club, Madhyapur Youth Association, Khumaltar Youth Club, Bansbari CLub and Shree Bhagwati Club. The tournament will have a total of 36 matches including 30 in Group stages.
ANFA retained the same league committee that oversaw the ‘A’ Division League under Bigyan Raj Sharma for the second-tier league. Sharma is the coordinator of the committee and Sanjiv Mishra the director. Each team will be provided with Rs 700,000 as preparation money with the top four finishers to receive Rs 800,000, Rs 500,000, Rs 300,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively as prize money.
Teams finishing at the bottom of their groups will be fined Rs 50,000 each from their preparation fees in addition to deduction of one point each next season. As incentive, teams will get Rs 20,000 as winning bonus while teams will share Rs 7,500 each in case matches end in draws.
