Before leaving for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Summit on Sunday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had presided over the council’s meeting that recommended names of the chairpersons for six constitutional commissions. The opposition leader, Sher Bahadur Deuba, was not present in the meeting.
The Central Working Committee meeting of NC on Thursday expressed serious concern over the council’s decision that was taken in absence of the opposition leader.
“It’s not the question of a single meeting or a few decisions, but the intention of the government,” said NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma. He noted that the council did not follow the democratic norms when announcing its decisions, since the view of the opposition was not sought.
“This meeting of Nepali Congress’s Central Working Committee strongly condemns the attempt at violating the democratic spirit and established procedures,” the NC said in a statement.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina claimed that the council had followed all due procedures before recommending names of the chairpersons for the constitutional commissions. The issue was even discussed during the previous meeting of the council, he added.
