Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel has urged fasting Dr Govinda KC to help in implementing the National Medical Education Bill that was endorsed by the lower House on Friday.
Speaking to mediapersons following the endorsement of the Medical Education Bill amidst protest from the Nepali Congress, he said the bill is the cornerstone for the reforms in country’s medical sector.
Saying that the Bill was endorsed as per the agreement signed with KC during his 15th hunger strike, he thanked KC as well.
“The Bill will not allow establishing new medical colleges in the Kathmandu Valley for the next 10 years and it will make the medical education non-profitable and service-oriented,” he said, highlighting the positive aspects of the bill.
The National Medical Education Bill was endorsed by the lower House amid protest from the Nepali Congress lawmakers on Friday. The bill was endorsed with a support of majority lawmakers.
After the endorsement of the bill, the opposition lawmakers obstructed the House chanting slogans against the government.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, however, criticised the government move as “authoritarian” and warned of launching strikes in the parliament and streets.
