Nepal Students Union, the student wing of main opposition Nepali Congress, on Sunday, protested against the government and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
The NSU members, as a part of their protest, burnt the effigy in front of Pashupati Multiple Campus in Mitrapark, Kathmandu, against the move opted by the ruling Nepali Communist Party at the parliament to endorse the National Medical Education Bill through majority while refusing to acknowledge the main opposition Nepali Congress and trampling on an earlier agreement reached with Dr Govinda KC.
The situation got tense for some time as the police tried to obstruct the NSU’s protest. However, the demonstrators were adamant and torched the effigy while chanting slogans against the government and PM Oli.
The NSU has been organising various protest programmes including the ruling party’s move to bulldoze the controversial bill and also demanding the government identify the persons involved in the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant of Kanchanpur, address the demands of Dr KC among others.
