Nepali Congress lawmaker Radheshyam Adhikari and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal’s lawmaker Brikhesh Chandra Lal on Thursday registered separate proposals at the parliament secretariat, seeking amendment to the National Medical Education Bill.

Secretary at the National Assembly Rajendra Phuyal said two separate amendment proposals have been registered at the parliament secretariat.

“If the opposition allows the National Assembly to function, the discussions on the National Medical Education Bill will begin today,” said Phuyal. The meeting of NA is scheduled for 2 pm today.
Earlier on Monday, secretary Phuyal had tabled the bill along with the message of the House of Parliament, while Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel had proposed the NA for consideration of the bill that was endorsed by the lower house amid protests from NC lawmakers.
He said both the amendments were registered including the provisions being raised by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC, who is on 23rd day of his 16th hunger strike at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
However, Nepali Congress parliamentary party has decided to continue with the protests at the National Assembly urging the Chairman to move ahead with other agenda only after saving the life of agitating doctor by fulfilling his demands. “We have decided to urge the NA to move ahead only after saving the life of Dr KC,” said NC lawmaker Badri Pande.
He said the government must urgently hold dialogue with him. "We registered the proposal as it is necesary to keep it on the record," Pande said.
Following the Business Advisory Committee of the parliament on Wednesday, NC lawmakers had said the party would continue protest at both the houses of the Federal Parliament despite their key demand regarding the two hospitals named after its leaders—late Girija Prasad Koirala and Sushil Koirala—was met.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the House of Representatives has been postponed for Sunday following the obstruction by main opposition Nepali Congress on Thursday.
