Police on Tuesday arrested 11 cadres of Nepal Student Union, student wing of the main opposition Nepali Congress, including President Nain Singh Mahar for staging a demonstration in a prohibited zone.
President Mahar said that he, along with other cadres, was arrested for crossing the restricted zone while heading towards District Administration Office, Babarmahal.
“Police arrested us from the restricted zone of Baneshwor while staging the demonstration demanding unconditional release of the Nepal Student Union cadres who were arrested for their alleged involvement in torching a government vehicle in Pokhara on Saturday,” Mahar said over telephone from Mahendra Police Club.
Police have kept seven persons including Mahar in the Mahendra Police Club while others have been kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala.
Nepal Student Union cadres on Saturday had torched a government vehicle as part of their programme to restrict government vehicles from plying on the road during public holidays.
The District Administration Office, Kaski, on Sunday had filed a public offence case against three cadres of the Nepal Student Union for torching the government vehicle.
