Police have arrested a person with a huge cache of counterfeit currency from Capital on Sunday.Police have arrested a person with a huge cache of counterfeit currency from Capital on Sunday. Om Bahadur Kunwar Chhetri was arrested with the fake notes with face value worth Rs 151,000 from Gongabu in Kathmandu.
Acting on a tipoff, a team deployed by Metropolitan Police Range, Gongabu, reached Om Bahadur’s room in Ganeshsthan, Gongabu, where they recovered the fake currency in the denomination of 1,000. The fake notes wroth Rs 141,000 were found at Om Bahadur’s cupboard while another Rs10,000 were recovered from nearby Hikmat Kunwar’s room.
Police managed to arrest Om Bahadur but Hikmat is at large. The search is underway, police said.
Police also seized 50 fake passports recovered from the rooms of both the culprits. The passports have been sent to Foreign Employment Department for investigation, police said.
Based on preliminary investigation, the police suspect both the culprits to be former manpower agents. Police inferred that the fake notes are printed using colour printer.
