NPC send Darjeeling packing

Nepal Police Club (NPC) sent Darjeeling United packing with a 2-0 victory to seal a semi-final berth of the Tilottama Gold Cup football tournament at the Debinagar stadium in Butwal on Tuesday.

Man-of-the-match Rabi Paswan and Milan Rai were on targets for the departmental team. Paswan broke the deadlock deep into first half stoppage time after he dispossessed the ball from a Darjeeling player. Rai doubled their advantage in the 68th minute after he being fed by Paswan. NPC will take on the winners of the match between Manang Marshyangdi Club and Chyasal Youth Club in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The competitive match saw Major KC fired above bar for Darjeeling in the 17th minute. Paswan came closer to scoring for NPC in the 23rd minute when his shot rattled the bar. In the 27th minute, Darjeeling captain Ganesh Limbu’s strike on goal was denied by custodian Roshan Khadka and three minutes later Armesh Gurung’s scorcher crashed the woodwork. NPC scorer Rai also hit the bar in the 32nd minute.   

Darjeeling manager Jeson Lepcha said that his side failed to give tough challenge due to the inclusion of new players in the squad. “We had to divided the players as the team has also been playing in Bhutan,” said Lepcha. NPC coach Ananta Raj Thapa said his team failed to live to the expectations in the first half due to lack of proper understanding and unknown opponents. “We changed strategy in the second half and that worked well for us,” said Thapa.

Dauphins Family of Cameroon will take on Jhapa XI on Wednesday.
