Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar has said the completion of Melamchi Water Supply Project was delayed due to the sheer negligence of the Italian contractor Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna. She said the project hit a snag at the final stage despite relatively better performance during her tenure.
“The construction of tunnel and gate were in the last phase. We were planning to supply the drinking water to Kathmandu Valley residents, but the project became uncertain. There are growing concerns and worries after the Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna left the project,” said Magar said.
She said she has taken initiatives to resolve the problem at the earliest.

Saying that talks are underway with the Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna, she said the project will be completed through the domestic contractor if the Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti di Ravenna expressed its reluctance to resume the work.
“I don’t want to speak more about the news published in various newspapers. Melamchi Water Supply Project is the important national pride project of the residents of Kathmandu Valley,” she said, adding, “I won’t let anyone ruin the project as it is linked with my tenure.”
