Sixteen-year-old Sangita Magar and her friend Sima Basnet were walking back home after attending preparatory classes for grade 10 finals when the world came down on them. Jiwan BK, a 20-year-old boy from Magar’s neighbourhood, hurled acid on her face. Cupping her burning face, Magar ran home to her mother, who poured water to soothe her injuries. By then pieces of flesh were falling off Magar’s face.
