Gotihawa Pillar, an archaeological site believed to be the birthplace of Krakuchhanda Buddha in Kapilvastu Municipality-5, is in a dilapidated condition.

Police have seized a cache of arms and ammunitions, including two Sub-Machine Guns (SMG), from a house belonging to Durga Bahadur Roka in Shivaram Municipality-9 of Kapilvastu district.  

Ashoka Pillar, a historically and archaeologically important artefact with inscription mentioning the birth of Gautam Buddha, is gradually deteriorating in the past few years.

A team of archaeologists has initiated an excavation at Tilaurakot, Kapilvastu, with an objective to include Tilaurakot in the list of World Heritage Sites. Tilaurakot is an ancient Shakyan city of Kapilvastu where Siddhartha Gautam spent 29 years of his lifetime.
