State aid has added speed to reconstruction of homes in Dolakha, but 80 per cent are unfit to live, a senior engineer said on Wednesday.Dolakha Building Construction and Urban Development Division Office Chief and engineer Ekraj Adhikari said, “Most of the reconstructed private homes are congested and not suitable for the health of people. The low zinc sheet roof and even use of zinc sheet as wall in the house are not climate friendly. Such houses are not strong enough for the future generation.”

The Scientific Forest Management (SFM) has been piloted in Khorthali Community Forest in Charikot, the district headquarters of Dolakha district. In the first phase, 140 hectares of forestland will be kept under the SFM framework, said Narayan Thapa, chairman of the Khorthali Community Forest Consumer’s Committee. The forest is spread over an area of 178 hectares, mostly covered by Pine trees. According to the work plan, the users can cut up to 1,400 trees a year.

The Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project’s plan to issue 25 percent ordinary shares to project affected people has hit a snag with locals bickering for more shares. The 456MW hydropower project being developed in Dolakha district was planning to launch an initial public offering equivalent to 25 percent of the stakes worth Rs2.63 billion by the end of March.
