This year marks the eighth death anniversary of Girija Prasad Koirala, former prime minister and president of the Nepali Congress (NC). GP was born in 1924 in Tedi of Saharsha district in Bihar state in India where his father, Krishna Prasad Koirala, was living in exile.
The Nepali Congress (NC) suffered its worst defeat in the recently held elections. In Nepal’s first ever vote held in 1959, the NC had secured a two-thirds majority by winning 74 out of the 109 seats in Parliament.
In early August 2006, a seven member high-level United Nations team, comprising of experts on political, military, electoral, and human rights affairs, called on then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in Kathmandu.
