Shangri-La Diaries

As the wind howled, we understood that we were beneath the blue mountains covered in snow. We had reached Lete, from where we could see a whole range of mountains, including the majestic Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. Lete falls on the way to Mustang and this is a diary of the time I was headed towards the northern fringes of Nepal for the first time.

Bleed for love

Blood donation is probably the most noble donation a person can make. Often, it is a life saving donation that costs the donor nothing except mild fatigue. To highlight the need for safe blood and to thank blood donors around the world, every year June 14 is celebrated as World Blood Donor Day. My hope is that such events will galvanise the public into becoming regular blood donors.

A nature walk

I went for a walk one sunny dayAnd saw a place atop a hill,Across a valley green and gleefulTo which I return after some years But this time I saw factories and townsInstead of temples and fieldsAnd garbage covered everywhereAmid the stench and the noise,

Modernise, not westernise

I was tired on my way home from school. Typically there is a lot of talking and chattering to which I would pay no attention but that day was different because the talk was somewhat interesting. National sports was the topic and we spoke admiringly about Brazil, Spain, the French and UK but when it came time to talk about our own national sport, there was a long pause.

What to learn from a dog

Dog is one of the most noble and magnificent creations of the almighty. He starts wagging his tail when you are 10 feet away from him. If you stop to pet and pat him, he will jump (almost out of his own skin) to tell you how much he likes you. When he licks you, you just know that behind his affection, there are no ulterior motives: He doesn’t want to sell you anything. He just wants to give, selflessly.

A goodbye note

Goodbyes are not forever and they are not the end. A goodbye simply means, “Until we meet again.” Yet they make you cringe. It’s here. It’s about time to say goodbye to my school life and friends. I’m still in disbelief, to tell the truth. It feels so weird to know that next year we won’t all be together.
