Ex-king Shah meets Thapa
Jun 17, 2013-
Former king Gyanendra Shah, who is on a Tarai tour, met Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa in Hetauda on Monday. It is reported that the deposed king visited Thapa secretly at the Hetauda-based Avocado Hotel.
Shortly after meeting Thapa, the former monarch also met his well-wishers. Shah offered prayers at the Chakrawarti monastery and other temples in Hetauda on Monday.
He said that he was worried to see people’s plight in the region. “People are worried,” Shah told reporters in Hetauda. “Their plight has also worried me,” he said.
Shah said people were worried due to social, political and economic reasons. He, however, said his visit was entirely for religious purpose.
A meeting of the Constituent Assembly in 2008 had abolished monarchy from the country bringing an end to the 240-year-old Shah regime. Since then, Shah has been living at a palace at Nagarjun in Kathmandu.
