Shrestha bags 3 gold medals

Subham Shrestha bagged three gold medals in the sub-junior category of swimming in the First National School Sports on Monday.

Shrestha swam 10m freestyle in 1minute 17.8 seconds, 50m back stroke in 44.97 seconds and 50 m butterfly in 41.59 seconds for his three gold medals.

Nikon Pujara and Rojan Rai finished second and third in 100m freestyle, while Prajwal Thapa and Pujara finished as runner-up and second runner-up respectively in 50 m butterfly.

Central region’s strong hold in swimming was once again proved as the top three swimmers in all the events of the two-day championship were from the Central region.

In the girl’s category, Osina Bharati clocked 50m freestyle in 36.88 seconds to grab gold. Tenzin Lama and Rashika Poudel won silver and bronze respectively. Sabbu Bista came first in 50m breaststroke with the timing of 47.88 seconds.

In the junior’s category, Shila Gurung swam 100m backstroke in 38.13 seconds to take the winners cap. Manish Chitrakar completed 100m freestyle in 1minute 5.45 seconds for his gold.


KATHMANDU: Central region’s girls struck gold in volleyball on Monday. In the final held at the covered hall of Dashrath Stadium, the Central region ousted the Western team 25-9, 25-12, 25-13. In the boys’ category, western region entered final after routing eastern region in all three sets.  


KATHMANDU:  Central also bagged football trophy as their boys’ team hammered the Far western region 4-1 in the final. Prabesh Karki scored twice as Bikash Ale and Kishore Marshangi also got in the score sheet.
