Shrestha stresses need to review UCPN (M) policy
Apr 23, 2014-
UCPN (Maoist) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that his party’s stature was reduced in the Constituent Assembly (CA) because of lofty ambitions of some party leaders. Inaugurating the 8th district convention of UCPN (M), Lalitpur, on Wednesday, Shrestha confided that the party was relegated to the third largest party in the second CA elections since the party could not work as per the public aspiration. The desire to become a “big politician” among some of the Maoist party leaders was one of the major reasons behind party’s poor show in the November 19 polls of last year, Shrestha said.
He criticised that one does not become a “big politician” with the strength of mere political rhetoric. Noting that all strategies adopted by the party after joining the peaceful politics have failed, Shrestha said it was high time the UCPN (M) reassessed its future strategy. If the Maoist party did not make timely changes in its policy, he warned that the party will be finished.
