‘Take war-era cases to spl court’

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Apr 23, 2014-

The major parties on Wednesday registered an amendment on TRC bill with the Parliament Secretariat seeking to bring all conflict-era cases under the purview of the special court.

Following an agreement among the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-centric parties at a meeting, the proposal was jointly filed by NC Chief Whip Chin Kaji Shrestha, Maoist Chief Whip Giriraj Mani Pokharel and UML leader Rajendra Pandey.

The parties’ move follows an unwritten understanding made last week to withdraw such cases from regular courts and bring them under the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and file cases in the special court.

The House proceedings had been obstructed by the UCPN (Maoist) party that demanded withdrawal of charges against 13 individuals accused of the murder of Krishna Adhikari and that all conflict-era cases be dealt with by the TRC, and not under the regular criminal procedure. (PR)
