Pariyar, Adhikari enter final

KATHMANDU: Holder Jitendra Pariyar set the men’s singles title clash with Kumar Adhikari in the third Citizens Bank Lawn Tennis Tournam-ent on Thursday. Pariyar rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Abhishek Bastola while Adhikari beat Santosh Khatri 6-3, 6-4. Mayanka Rana set the women’s singles title clash with Ganga Sharma. Rana beat Ani Mathema 7-6, 6-1 and Sharma saw off Bijisha Shrestha 6-2, 6-1. (PR)

RIBS basketball begins on Friday

KATHMANDU: Rhododen-dron International Boarding School (RIBS) is organising the Three Decades Cup RIBS Inter-school Basketball and Football Championships from Friday. In all 16 teams in boys and eight in girls will vie for basketball title, while 12 teams are in fray for the junior boys’ Five-a-Side Football. (PR)

International Chess from May 8

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chess Club of Dolakha and Dolakha District Chess Association is organising the third Mt Gauri-shankar International Chess Tournament from May 8. The tournament will be participated in by 150 players from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Japan Russia and America. The winner of the tournament will get Rs 50,000. The tournament will be played over nine rounds under Swiss League format. (PR)

Ankle injury ends Townsend’s hopes

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur announced on Wednesday that Andros Townsend will be sidelined for around 10 weeks with an ankle ligament problem, effectively ruling him out of the World Cup for England.  A period of unavailability of 10 weeks would leave Townsend unable to play until the second week in July, by which time England’s World Cup campaign in Brazil may already be over. Benitez calls up Higuain

MILAN: Napoli coach Rafael Benitez has given fans some welcome news ahead of Saturday’s Cup final against Fiorentina by calling Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain into his matchday squad. Higuain has been an injury doubt for Napoli ahead of the Cup final in Rome since injuring his calf in last week’s scoreless draw away to Inter. (AFP)
