6 killed, 35 injured in Kavre bus crash

Six persons died and 35 others were injured when a Tatopani-bound passenger bus plunged into a stream at Pachaskilo along Araniko Highway on Saturday. Five among the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
The speeding vehicle (Ba 3 Kha 2037) swerved off the slippery road, triggered by light drizzle, and plunged into the stream at around 2 pm. The security personnel and local people reached the incident site immediately and rescued the injured.
Sarita Shrestha of Mankha-1, Rejina Thami of Salle-8, Sangita Karki of Thulopakhar-3 in Sindhupalchok and Swosthani KC of Bekhsimle-7 in Kavre were killed in the accident, police said. The identity of two others is yet to be ascertained.
The injured were taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment. The five critically injured, including the vehicle driver, were referred to a hospital in Kathmandu.
“It was raining. The bus jerk violently as the driver had jammed on the brakes. And the bus plunged into the stream,” said Navin Shrestha, who escaped the accident with minor injuries.
