Central members to be elected

- BHIM GHIMIRE, BIRATNAGAR

May 3, 2014-

Following pressure from youth leaders, the party has started preparations for the election of Central Committee members at the ongoing national convention in Biratnagar.

Election officer Dharma Sheela Chapagain said work had begun to prepare the voters’ list. As per the party statute, 74 members will be directly elected and the rest nominated in the 99-member CC.

Though older leaders were of the view that the CC members should be chosen in consensus, younger ones pressed for a vote to elect the members in order to strengthen the party.

The closed session of the convention was delayed for hours over disputes of legitimacy of the district convention representatives and failure to submit levy.

Team leaders demanded a direct voting system to elect the CC members, with some going as far as demanding the party chairman be elected through a direct vote.
