Govt to enforce edu regulations

- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

May 7, 2014-

The concerned government authorities have expressed their commitment to Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority for an effective implementation of the Private and Institutional School Operation Directives 2013.

Secretaries from ministries of Education and Health  along with director general at Department of Education (DoE) , in a meeting at CIAA, assured the national anti-graft body to regulate fees and malpractice in private schools as per the existing legal provisions. The CIAA had called the concerned government authorities for their commitment after numerous complaints were filed about the exorbitant fee charged by the private schools under various topics. “The government authorities have expressed their commitment to fully implement all the provisions of the directives,” read a statement from the CIAA on Wednesday.

The directive has fixed the maximum fee ceiling for the private schools while restricting collection of annual and admission fees every year. The DoE has fixed a monthly fee of Rs 1,100 for primary level, Rs 1,250 for lower secondary level and Rs 1,700 for secondary level for ‘C’ grade schools.

The directives, however, allows the ‘A’ grade schools to hike fee by 50 percent and ‘B’ grade schools by 25 percent. Likewise, ‘D’ grade schools mandatorily have to deduct 25 percent from the fee ceiling.
