koirala vows to enforce Lumbini Plan

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Wednesday said the government was committed to implementing the Lumbini Development Plan prepared for transforming the birth place of Gautam Buddha and the surrounding religious and historical sites.
Inaugurating a programme organised to mark 2558th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day, Koirala said the government will spare no effort to develop Lumbini as a better place of pilgrimage for Buddhists worldwide.
“The government will work to implement the Master Plan as soon as possible,” he said, adding that thousands of Buddhists from all over the world are eager to visit Lumbini and that South Asian countries had been lending their support to have better road and air links to the area.
Dip Kumar Upadhyay, Lumbini Development Trust chairman, urged the government to implement the plan.
Ban appeals for peace
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday sent a message to millions of Buddhist followers on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, also known as Vesak Day. Ban appealed for peace, security, and development in the world. He emphasises on the following of Buddha’s message of peace, compassion and love among all humans.
