Nepotism plagues Tourism Board

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has inducted 35 individuals as paid interns, who have allegiance with various political leaders and bureaucrats.
Sources at the board said that officiating CEO Subash Nirola have inducted six of his relatives, including his son-in-law Sudip Sigdel. Other interns include the relatives of Tourism Secretary Sushil Ghimire; former Tourism Ministers Post Bahadur Bogati and Ram Kumar Shrestha; personal assistant of Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Shiva Khakurel and other government officials.
“Earlier, there were no provision of paying the interns and they used to be selected under the recommendation of various travel and tourism colleges,” the source added. The interns are paid Rs 15,000-25,000 a month as meal allowances which would cost the board a yearly financial burden of Rs 7 million.
