Health Minister for increasing tobacco tax

Minister for Health and Populations Khagraj Adhikari has stressed the need of discouraging the production and consumption of tobacco products.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Ministry of Health and Populations on the eve of World No Tobacco Day on Friday, Minister Adhikari suggested increasing tax on tobacco to downsize its market and discourage the people from using tobacco products.
Minister Adhikari said the government was steadfast on its commitment to enforce anti-tobacco message accompanied by photos, covering 75 percent space of the covers of all tobacco products. Yagya Bahadur Karki, member of the National Planning Commission, said control of production and use of tobacco products is necessary to promote a healthy society.
