Man killed by mudslide

POKHARA: A mudslide buried a jeep and killed the driver on the banks of Seti River in Machhapuchhre VDC-4, Kaski, on Friday. The victim was identified as Yekraj Nepali, a resident of Batulechaur in Pokhara. Witnesses said that Nepali was driving towards Pokhara when his vehicle came on the way of the mudslide.  (RSS)

Poaching suspect apprehended

KANCHANPUR: Members of a task force formed to control poaching and wildlife smuggling arrested a man with a loaded gun from Laljhadi Mohana Conservation Area in Kanchanpur district on Thursday night. Chief District Forest Officer Pashupatinath Koirala said the suspect was being held in custody and he could face criminal action under the Wildlife Conservation Act. (RSS)

Hailstorm havoc in Jajarkot

JAJARKOT: Hailstorm destroyed fruit and vegetable plantations in different parts of Jajarkot district on Thursday night. The hailstorm caused the most damage in the northeastern part of the district, including Kahagenkot, Ragda and Dandagaon villages. The disaster is said to have caused a loss of hundreds of thousands of rupees. (RSS)  

Smuggled cattle confiscated

BIRGUNJ: A joint team from the Narayani Zonal Police Office, Birgunj, and District Police Office, Bara, seized 35 cattle being smuggled to India from Raghunathpur VDC in Parsa district on Friday.The cattle were handed over to the Birgunj Customs Office. In another incident, police arrested a man from Pheta VDC-7 in Parsa district with 2,500 chicks that were smuggled from India. The chicks were handed over to the Animal Quarantine Office. (RSS)

Agro training helps conflict-hit

BANEPA: About Rs 1.8 million has been invested to support the conflict-hit women in Kavre so far.    District Agriculture Development Office said the money was invested to train the conflict-affected women on different aspects of farming. The programme has helped its recipients earn income. (RSS)

Murder-accused men arrested

JANAKPUR: Police presented two men, who were arrested on the charge of murdering a man from Janakpur in Dhanusha on Thursday night, to the District Court on Friday. Ram Pukar Yadav, 45, of Sijurjoda VDC-1 and his son Shiva Kumar Yadav were accused of murdering Ramekwal Yadav over a parental property on March 31. Ramekwal is Ram Pukar’s brother. Siyadevi Yadav and Jitendra Yadav, who were arrested in connection with the incident, have already been sent to judicial custody. (PR)

Banda affects Beshisahar

LAMJUNG: Lamjung district headquarters Beshishahar remained closed on Friday after 19-year-old Aaitakumari Tamang of Bahundanda-6, who was found dead in the dam site of Marsyangdi Hydropower Project on Wednesday, called a banda demanding action the guilty. Education institutions and the market in some places were shut while vehicular movement across the district came to a halt. Tamang, an eleventh grader used to study at a higher secondary school in Beshisahar. The victim’s family said that Tamang was murdered after being raped and demanded action against one Jit Bahadur Adhikari accused of being involved in the crime. Police said Adhikari has been arrested in connection with the incident. (PR)

Man found dead

TEHRATHUM: A man was found dead near the Nevang stream at Basantapur Village Development Committee in the district on Friday. Local people and victim’s family recovered the body of Mohan Limbu of Basantapur-4, who had reportedly gone missing for the past few days. Police said the body was found with severed head and that they are investigating in the matter. (PR)

Girl electrocuted

MAKWANPUR: A 16-month-old girl of Chhatiwan VDC-4 in the district was electrocuted on Friday. Shristi Bhlon touched a live wire when pumping water at her house, police said. The girl died on the spot. (PR)
