TV dealers launch World Cup promotional push

With the FIFA World Cup 2014 a little under two weeks away, television dealers have launched a series of promotional schemes to cash in on the most-watched sports event.

Local dealers of Sony, Videocon and Hisense have already launched their marketing campaigns, while others like Samsung and LG are planning to launch their promo soon. Various gifts, from football jerseys to TV sets, are on the offer.

The World Cup will be held in Brazil from June 12.

Nepa Hima Trade Link, authorised distributor of Sony, has come up with a scheme named “Sony Days 2014”, under which the company is offering gift items like blu-ray home theatre systems, blu-ray players, DVD players, Xperia Z Ultra smartphone and t-shirts on purchase of the Sony Bravia series of televisions. Sony is also the sponsor of the FIFA World Cup.

Nepa Hima General Manager Binil Bajracharya said the company is expecting a three-fold rise in the sales during the World Cup. “We are also planning to launch the new Sony HDTV,” he said. “LED televisions have become cheaper compared to the last World Cup. A 32-inch LED TV used to cost Rs 90,000, but now it is available for Rs 58,000.”

Videocon is also offering gifts like jerseys, pen drives and mobile phones to the buyers of its TVs. The prices of Videocon TVs start from Rs 14,800. Tejendra Singh Mahara, national sales manager at Shree Pashupati Electronics, authorised distributor of Videocon, said the company aims to sell around

3,000 units of TVs during the World Cup.

Navin Distributors, authorised distributor of Hisense, has launched “Hisense Hitech World Cup” offer. Under the scheme, customers can get cash discounts and other gifts including pen drives, power banks and HDMI players, among others.

Hisense has roped in football player Anil Thapa for brand endorsement during the campaign which will run through July 31. The company has been selling a wide range of televisions ranging from 19- to 65-inch, priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 500,000.

Universal Electrocom, manufacturer of Colors appliances, is offering the Colors F7N mobile phone on purchase of Colors LED TVs. The company recently launched a wide range of LED TVs targeting the World Cup. The TVs come in 19-, 24- and 32-inch variants.

CG Electronics is also planning to launch a consumer scheme soon. Sanjay RajBhandari, deputy general manager of the company, said they are currently busy sketching the plan for LG, TCL, CG and Toshiba brands.
