PM Koirala speaks of his cancer battle
Jun 11, 2014-
A day after a CT-Scan report showed a small ‘black spot’ on his lungs, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala publicly said here on Wednesday that he is a cancer patient.
“I smoked cigarettes and chewed tobacco excessively during my younger days . Now I am suffering for my past habits,” the prime minister told reporters at Biratnagar Airport. “I am suffering from tongue cancer. I am going to the United States after a few days for a medical follow-up.”
PM Koirala said he suspects that the spot seen on his lungs may also have been caused because of smoking and tobacco chewing.
“I am not a man who conceals his diseases. We should not hide the disease,” Prime Minister Koirala said when his neice and Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala asked him why he chose to mention about his disease to the public.
PM Koirala was here to attend a meeting of Purbanchal University as a chancellor.
