‘UCPN (M) should restore its revolutionary reputation’
Jun 11, 2014-
UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that the party needs to restore its proletarian revolutionary reputation in order to become a political force to be reckoned with.
“We need to go back to our roots, or else the Maoist party will lose its relevancy,” he said.
The Maoist leader, who had been avoiding public functions and the press after the results of the CA polls of November 2013, organised a press conference at his residence in Hattiban, Lalitpur, on Wednesday, where he expressed his views on various issues, including the intra-party dynamics, current politics, the obstructed parliament and constitution writing.
Shrestha said that his party was making efforts to unite with the breakaway CPN-Maoist. He is of the view that the UCPN (Maoist) would prosper, if the unification takes place with the CPN-Maoist.
The Mohan Baidya-led CPN (Maoist) has stayed outside the CA and the constitution writing process along with other fringe parties, demanding for the promulgation of a new constitution through a roundtable dialogue comprising of all political forces.
Shrestha has said that the government should take the initiative to persuade the CPN-Maoist and the other parties outside the CA to participate in the constitution drafting process. “The constitution drafting process should be participatory, and it should be issued with the consensus from all sides,” he said.
The UCPN (Maoist) vice-chairman also criticised the government for the delay in the appointment of 26 lawmakers through the Cabinet.
