- POST REPORT, Kathmandu

Jun 13, 2014-

Nepali Congress lawmaker Ram Chandra Poudel called for a budget that envisions economic growth with social justice during the pre-budget discussions of the Legislature-Parliament on Friday. The budget for the fiscal year 2014/15 should give priority to agriculture, tourism and hydropower sectors, the NC lawmaker said.

For the desired economic development, he  said, the country needs to grow at an annual rate of seven percent for a sustained period.

CPN-UML lawmaker and former finance minister, Surendra Pandey, urged the government for sector-wise budget allocation by specifying provisions supporting the project’s growth. Another former finance minister and UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker, Baburam Bhattarai, advised the government to come up with clear development objectives in the budget.

The efforts should be directed towards economic growth and employment creation, Bhattarai said.
