Nepali entrepreneurs seek easy access of Nepali products to US
Jul 29, 2014-
Nepali entrepreneurs on Tuesday urged a visiting US trade official to allow Nepali products an easy access to the US market. Despite having high export potential, Nepali products have failed in the US due to lack of easy access to its market, said the entrepreneurs.
Officials of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) asked Mara Burr, Deputy Assistant at the US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia to help facilitate promotion of Nepali products in the US market during a meeting held at FNCCI building in Teku, Kathmandu.
Burr is currently in Nepal visit for preparatory meeting of Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), which is scheduled for Wednesday. Against the backdrop of US authorities rejecting access of many Nepali products to the US market on quality grounds, the FNCCI officials urged the US to help install internationally recognised quality control lab in Nepal.
They also sought Burr’s support in facilitating the participation of Nepali entrepreneurs in various US trade fairs in order to help promote Nepali products there.
During the meeting, the FNCCI President Pradeep Jung Pandey urged the US authorities to also encourage US investment in potential sectors in Nepal such as hydropower, infrastructure development, and tourism.
