Former PU officials face graft charge

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday filed a corruption case against retired senior officials, including vice-chancellors, of Purwanchal University (PU).

In the charge sheet filed at the special court, the anti-graft body has sought fine of Rs 12.11 million for misusing the University fund for personal purposes. Investigations carried out by the CIAA have shown that the officials misused the fund allocated for lab furniture and equipments.

The accused are former vice-chancellors Jagat Bahadur K.C and Prof Ramawatar Yadav, former registrars Bhegendra Prasad Upadhyaya and Sandesh Prasad Koirala, former deans Khemraj Kaini and Prof Pradeep Raj Pradhan, former chief accountant Bhupendra Prasad Khanal, senior officer Narayan Prasad Dhakal, administrative officer Sukesh Karna and Instrument and Chemicals P Ltd.

A charge sheet was filed on Thursday against the accused as per the section 17 of Prevention of Corruption Act 2059.
