Anfa leaves door open for agitators
Aug 18, 2014-
The All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) on Monday left the door open for the four agitating top-flight clubs to participate in the upcoming A Division Knockout Football Tournament.
A meeting of the Anfa members and the A Division Club members on Monday made the decision to allow the four teams — Himalayan Sherpa Club, Friends Club, Saraswoti Youth Club and Machhindra Club, who are at odds with Anfa leadership — their participation provided they obey the football governing body’s directive and ensure in writing their commitment to Anfa.
“The four clubs who remained absent in the meeting on Monday can participate in the tournament only if they request for their participation but they require to make firm commitment,” said Anfa in a statement.
The agitating clubs had been waging war against Anfa demanding timely payment of tournament prize money and transparency among other things. They have also knocked the doors of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority and the Parliament Accounts Committee to probe into the financial dealing of the football governing body.
The meeting also announced the date of knockout tournament to be held on August 31-Sept 10 at the Dashrath Stadium. Each team will be provided Rs 50,000 as preparation money, informed Anfa.
The National League, organised with an ambitious home and away concept, has been fixed for November 7 kick off.
