Newly appointed Finance Secretary Suman Prasad Sharma assumed office at the Finance Ministry amid a function on Monday. He was a secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communication before his transfer.

Sharma said that his main focus would be implementing the budget for the current fiscal year and increasing capital expenditure. “Another important work will be to create ground for sustained high economic growth and graduate the country to a developing country by 2022,” he said.

During the function, Sharma asked ministry officials to work on increasing capital expenditure, expanding revenue collection, controlling recurrent expenditure and continuing the reforms in public enterprise.

Sharma said that the Finance Ministry under his administrative leadership would work to implement the reforms introduced by Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat in the budget if they were related to the ministry. “If they are related to other line ministries, the Finance Ministry will aid their implementation,” he added. Most of the reforms are related to changing the existing laws.

Sharma also stressed utilizing growing remittance in productive sectors and reforming public financial management to bring transparency and accountability, said the ministry in a press release.
