Mixed results for Dhami in Nanjing

Dipesh Dhami of Nepal and Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand lost to Magda Konieczna of Poland and Yiu Lee Cheuk of Hong Kong 20-22, 21-18, 21-23 in the second round of the mixed doubles badminton tournament during the second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing on Monday.
The defeat comes a day after the Nepal’s junior champion teamed up with the Thai girl to beat the duo of Krzysztof Jakowczuk of Poland and Clara Azurmendi Morena of Spain 21-19, 19-21, 21-12 in the first round of the Group E match. Also on Sunday, Dhami lost his men’s singles Group C match against Wei Cheam June of Malaysia in straight sets 21-13, 21-11.
Athlete Sangita Khadka, one of the only two Nepali players to compete in the Games, is schedule to take part in the women’s 3,000-metre race on Wednesday. Chef-de-Mission Jyoti Rana, a member of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), and official Radha Krishna Bista complete the Nepali team in the Chinese city.
Irrespective of the results, the Nepali team will have stay in the Olympic village until the closing ceremony, according the NOC .
