Art exhibition to raise cultural awareness
Sep 2, 2014-
A solo-painting exhibition titled Elegance 2 — Beauty of the Heritage in Low Light by artist Jyoti Prakash BK, featuring various aspects of our cultural heritage, is on display at Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal.
The current exhibition is a sequel to the previous exhibition titled Elegance, which was held at Mithila Yain Art Council in Thamel, a few months ago. In both these exhibitions, the artist has made a conscious effort to foreground our local heritage, culture and tradition. The current exhibition features a total of 15 acrylic paintings, mostly dealing with various aspects of our culture. In one of his paintings, BK beautifully combines several temples, Buddhist stupas, prayer flags and other religious places around the city on the same rectangular canvas to indicate a strong bond between religions. Other paintings represent different temples, stupas, national-heritage sites and cultural elements of different communities. Additionally, the paintings are mostly composed of five differrent colours—red, green blue, yellow and white—which, to the artist, have a religious significance.
“I am trying to raise awareness about our cultural heritage and religious bond through the paintings,” he said. According to the artist, a certain percentage of the amount raised from the sales of the paintings will be donated to the flood victims and Nepal Blood Donor Association.
The exhibition was officially opened on August 30 and the works will remain on exhibit till September 4
