2 dozen houses in Salyan village at risk of landslide
Sep 3, 2014-
Around two dozen households at Sandanda VDC-3 in the district are exposed to the risk of landslide. One house in particular is said to be in peril, forcing the household members to spend nights at a nearby building of Kailash Primary School.
“Since the chances of landslide occurring here is very high, we had no option but to sleep somewhere else,” lamented a family member.
The landslides following incessant rains on August 12 and 13 have developed cracks on their house while their courtyard is completely swept away.
“We just can’t sleep here because you never know when the house will be taken away,” claimed another family member, Karna Bahadur Jhadi.
Being sceptical on the safety of the makeshift shelters, the landslide affected victims have asked to be shifted to secure places. The victims condemn on the fact that the soil in the area is loose and setting up tents on it is dangerous.
“The family members have been taking shelter in the school with nowhere to go,” said head teacher Dropati Sharma, with the locals rushing into the school whenever it rains.
